New York Yankees First to Clinch Playoff Spot With Win Over Angels

by on Sep.23, 2009, under Entertainment News, Sports News

The New York Yankees became the first MLB team to clinch a MLB playoff spot yesterday with a 6-5 win over the Anaheim Angels. With a six game lead over the Boston Red Sox and a 5 1/2 game lead over the Angels, the Yankees are looking at home-field advantage throughout the postseason at the New Yankee Stadium.

The New Yankee Stadium

The NY Yankees need all the playoff appearances they can get at the New Yankee Stadium to help pay for their new home. Next year ticket prices have been cut for the most expensive seats with field level seats dropping from $325 each to around $250 each and the $2500 seats down to only $1500 each. That will have a huge impact on revenue projections used to secure funding for the stadium so the team is in dire need of as many wins in the postseason as possible.

This was a particularly tough year for MLB teams as far as attendance and revenue and the bad economy is sure to have an effect on the postseason ticket sales as well. You can bet the NFL and NHL teams are hoping for a better season than MLB had this year. New York Yankees Playoff Tickets are on sale now.
