by Greg on Aug.12, 2009, under Business News, Discount Ticket Deals, Entertainment News, Music News, Sports News
It’s the last week of summer vacation for many families and San Francisco has plenty to do if you need to get away for the remainder of the week.
You can always find a great theater performance in the city and Wicked the Musical is currently playing at the Orpheum Theatre every day this week, including matinees on Saturday and Sunday. At the Curran Theatre you can find August: Osage County, playing through the weekend as well.
For sports fans there are two NFL preseason games in the area. You can catch the Oakland Raiders playing the Dallas Cowboys at the newly renamed Oakland – Alameda Stadium or find the San Francisco 49ers playing the Denver Broncos on Friday night at Candlestick Park. The Oakland Athletics will be playing the Chicago White Sox this weekend at the Oakland – Alameda Stadium, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Monday through Wednesday.
Concerts are plentiful in the city in the summer, but most of the artists are at nearby wineries and outdoor venues. You’ll find Diana Krall at the Wente Vinyards on Thursday, Huey Lewis at the Mountain Winery on Friday and Saturday, Lil Wayne at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord on Saturday, Buddy Guy at the Villa Montalvo on Saturday, and Toby Keith at the Shoreline Amphitheater on Sunday.

Wicked the Musical – Great Theater on Tour
by admin on Aug.11, 2009, under Entertainment News, Music News
Wicked the Musical is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, and it’s the hottest show in theater again this year. You can always catch Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre in New York, and through January 3rd 2009, at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco.
The story involves the time before Dorothy dropped out of the sky, and into the Land of Oz. In this story, two friends grow up to be very different witches. One with emerald green skin, the Wicked Witch of the West, and the other, Glinda the Good Witch, who is beautiful and is loved by everyone.
The production runs about two and a half hours long, with a fifteen minute intermission, and is recommended for children eight years old, or older. The best view for Wicked the Musical is usually a few rows back in the orchestra section, or the first few rows of the lodge or balcony.
