According to George Warren at News 10 in Sacramento the Sacramento Kings are going looking at moving to Virginia Beach into a new arena to be built by Global Spectrum next season. This would be the latest slap in the face to Sacramento Kings fans from the owners of the team, the Maloofs, who have promised in recent months to keep the team in Sacramento.
The Maloofs recently turned down an offer by the City of Sacramento to build an arena in the former downtown rail yards so this may not be too unexpected from the team that has stiffed the fans since the they took over.
The rage in Sacramento will be building in the next few days and if this is true the sooner the Kings are gone the better. They will still play in the Power Balance Pavilion for one last season but don’t expect many fans to attend the games other than to boo the absentee owners. It’s quite likely the Maloofs may not been seen in Sacramento again after running the ticket prices to some of the highest in the NBA, with one of the lowest payrolls in the league for the last five years.
That’s just one of the dozens of reasons Sacramento Kings fans will say to Virginia Beach, good luck! When it comes to sports, the quality of ownership is everything to a team, and Sacramento has learned that the hard way. For more information just Google – Maloofs in the next few days for reaction from the fans.
