Ticketmaster and Live Nation’s plan to merge were dealt a blow by the Competition Commission in the UK after they ruled that competition would be harmed by the proposed merger. Live Nation and Ticketmaster tried once again to defend the plan saying it would be good for consumers and strengthen the music industry.
But the only thing that can help the music industry is more jobs, a better economy and less greedy artists and corporate money grabbers such as Irving Azoff. Ticketmaster and Live Nation are struggling now financially, with concerts around the country bombing. What they believe they need is a monopoly on the ticket sales, so they can charge whatever they want for both the original sale and resale of tickets, without any competition.
What most consumers are slowly realizing is they don’t want them to resell or even give away tickets they have purchased, as they have proven with their new paperless ticketing system. It’s just all bad and at least they are catching on in the UK. Is the US Justice Department listening?
