Irving Azoff has finally left Live Nation Entertainment after leaving a legacy of jacking up the cost for fans to see live music. Azoff brought together Live Nation and Ticketmaster and proceeded to raise up the price of concert tickets with overpriced ticket packages and huge increases in the face value of tickets.
When he first started with Live Nation Azoff quickly made it known that he thought concert ticket prices were undervalued. He based this on the fact that ticket brokers were reselling a number of tickets for well above the current face value. He didn’t care that not every fan was willing to pay jacked up prices but every fan had to pay more under Azoff’s rule so the artist and shareholders could enjoy more profits.
Now that he has succeeded in jacking up concert ticket prices to an unsustainable price for artists to maintain year after year he is leaving before the business implodes from overpriced and over toured artists. Good riddance.
Update: In commenting on why he was leaving Live Nation Irving Azoff said the following, “We had a board that was afraid to do things because of the Treasury, institutional shareholders, people writing you letters, everybody complaining about you and your people making too much money,” (Billboard.biz 12-31-12). Apparently while ripping off the fans.
