You can’t find too many concerts these days without the artist selling tickets on Ticketmaster for “Meet and Greets” with the fans and charging big bucks for the pleasure of maybe shaking their hand and getting a photo with the star. But the fact that they are charging for that fan opportunity gives the appearance of selling themselves to the highest bidders, since clearly at their prices only the well off can afford it.
Calling them tour whores may seem a little rough, but they should be doing it as a favor to the fans for coming to the concert and supporting them by buying their songs, not charging them hundreds to thousands of dollars for what should be free.
Rather than charging for the privilege they could reward their best fans by having a contest before the concert or simply drawing ticket numbers randomly before the concert. Usually the Meet and Greet tickets come with some of the best seats, forcing those that pay the high face values further from the stage. In the old days the artists complained ticket brokers were putting a bunch of rich stiffs in the front rows, now the artists are filling the seats with the same fans, for more money.
I don’t understand what elevates anyone to the status of having to pay to meet them, much less after you have paid for the luxurious lifestyle most popular artists enjoy. They owe the fans, not the other way around and to have to pay to meet them is just greedy.
