Bob Dylan will be going the cash only route for ticket sales for his upcoming concerts at the Warfield Theatre this coming Friday August 25th. The cash only requirement is meant to thwart ticket scalpers, and the one ticket per person limit will give more fans a chance at the tickets.
The downside is you have to have cash, no credit cards allowed, and you may have to arrive hours in advance to make sure you can get a ticket. The ticket line for the Bob Dylan show should be pretty long by the time they go on sale at the Warfield on Friday, but for a $60 Bob Dylan ticket is hard to beat.
Accepting cash only for concert tickets is nothing new. Bill Graham would accept cash only for most of his early concerts, then reputedly let fans in through another door so he could overload the venue and make more cash. It’s not likely this will catch on with too many artists.
Most venues don’t want to deal with doing all ticket sales the night of the show, and working with cash only adds to the problems. But Bob Dylan can get away with it, and the Warfield Theatre was not going to turn him down, especially when the venue was not booked for that night anyway. Tickets for Bob Dylan are available for the rest of his concerts on his current tour.
