President Barrack Obama is going to be delivering a speech to public school children, with the message of the importance of education, working hard, and staying in school.
And you get bunch of nutcases such as in the New York Times, “The thing that concerned me most about it was it seemed like a direct channel from the president of the United States into the classroom, to my child,” said Brett Curtiss, an engineer from Pearland, Tex., who said he would keep his three children home. “I don’t want our schools turned over to some socialist movement.” Hey Brett, who’s running the school your children are in? If it’s not a private school, then what do you call a school system supported by the government? You may want to keep your kids at home permanently. And you’re an engineer? Likely your company may be depending on government contracts as well? Pull yourself together people!
Did you object when George Bush Sr. did they same thing when he was president? What kind of country have we become when up to 50% of the population believes the President of the United States message must be screened before speaking to their children, but even a substitute teacher doesn’t have to have her work screened before class.
It’s hard to keep quite, even as an independent, when a majority of the country is at odds and we are hearing some of the stupidest statements uttered by seemingly educated people. It’s as if we have a civil war going on between the liberals and the conservatives, with the conservatives on the attack.
How long will this go on? Will the liberals treat the next Republican President the same way out of retaliation? I don’t know which is more screwed up at this point, the State of California, or the nation. And yes, I do have the right to say this country is screwed up and still live here, just as the nutcases have the same right to speech.
